A walk through the Smart Green School at Nsude. Ceiling boards have fallen in, leaving the frame exposed. Rainwater pools across classroom floors, walls are stained by leaks, and exposed pipes and cables hang outside. The two-storey block looks complete from the courtyard.
From the road, this is a finished flagship school. Inside, the roof leaks before the first full school year is over. This is the second smart-school site in the archive showing defects (see AWO-027).
What broke, and what would fix it
What broke
Projects get signed off on how they look from outside. A school that leaks will need repairs within a year, costing again what was supposedly already paid for. Defects-liability clauses only work when someone enforces them.
Is this school still under the contractor's defects-liability period, and has the contractor been called back?
